From Chapter 52
“Caution! Bus is turning. Caution! Bus is turning.”
I hear this over and over as I receive a much-needed massage from my dear friend, Jen. I am trying everything I can to deal with my stress.
Her office sits a block from the busy thoroughfare of Germantown Avenue and the nearby #23 bus stop. The bus runs frequently and plays the recorded warning often.
Jen uses warm oil, a woodland fragrance, and calming music. As I sink into the table and relax to soothing touch, my mind wanders. From the open window, I feel a gentle breeze and hear the words. “Caution! Bus is turning.” It is not jarring. The words float, infused into the meditative mix like a musical refrain. The repetition feels like a specific message for the moment.
We go along feeling okay.. We are calm, at peace But the bus is always turning. A child dies. Then another. A pandemic. A hurricane. A leaking roof.
Don’t get complacent.
Caution, Bus is turning!
